The San Francisco Chronicle’s Glowing Review of Gene Rhee’s “The Trouble with Romance”
“The Trouble with Romance” by award winning writer and director Gene Rhee, garnered praise from its recent run at festivals in the Bay Area. The San Francisco Chronicle’s G. Allen Johnson asserts: “Rhee’s feature debut is in some ways a textbook for how to make a great low-budget feature: Start with a really good, tightly written script, hire some terrific, trained, hungry actors and shoot it economically on small interiors. For an audience, it’s a winning combination.”
With heartfelt performances, the film stars David Eigenberg of Sex in the City fame, Jordan Belfi from Entourage and Josie Davis from the sitcom Two and a Half Men. Gene Rhee, and friends Shari Hefner and Mike Su wrote the script. The movie examines relationships from the perspectives of a single woman, a single man, a young couple and a married couple, all taking place in different rooms on the same floor of a hotel. Love, loss, forgiveness and redemption are all dissected in this low budget romantic comedy.
The film was shot in only 2 weeks on a micro-budget but was picked up for distribution by Warner Bros. Gene Rhee came up with the idea for Trouble after many conversations with friends about their relationships. The film will be available nationwide via On Demand, iTunes and Amazon c/o Warner Bros.
