Lonny Gordon Grants and Academic Experiences

From 1971 till 1972, Professor Lonny Gordon of Illinois State University – College of Fine Arts received a Mobil Foundation Grant in addition to a 1982 – 1983, National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. Lonny was also awarded by the Nevada Arts Council with a Jackpot, Project, and Presenters Grants from 1992-2001. This was for the World Dance and Music Series and Family Affairs Series which Lonny Gordon launched at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

Moreover, Lonny Gordon received the Nevada Arts Council Professional Development Grant in 1995 as well as the Nevada Design Arts Grant in Architecture and the Environment from 1996 – 1997. Additionally, Mr Gordon received a full semester Faculty Development Grant from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas during autumn of 1999. This was in support of his research for the Ruth Page Centennial Celebration for the Ruth Page Foundation. With this includes the writing of “A Life of Firsts,” the creation of new choreography based on the work of Ruth Page and extensive recorded interviews with Andre Delfau, her 2nd husband, the costume and scenic artist for the Paris Opera.

Apart from that, Lonny Gordon also acquired several academic experiences such as being the Chair for the Dance Program of the Department of Physical Education and Dance at the University of Wisconsin, Madison during the summer of 1978 as well as being the Assistant and Associate Professor at the Department of Women’s Physical Education and Dance at the University Wisconsin, Madison from 1976 till 1985.  In 1985 Lonny became a tenured full Professor at Wisconsin.

Mr Gordon also served as Chair of Dance Arts at UNLV from 1991 – 1994 and Director of Development for the UNLV Performing Arts Center from 1994 – 1998.  Lonny Gordon was the Dean of Fine Arts at Illinois State University from 2004 – 2008 and is Artist in Residence presently.
