Matt Szarka: Taking it Easy

For twenty seven year old Matt, taking it easy takes getting used to. Formerly the Marketing Director for IPS AdvisorPro and Mosaic Financial Partners, Matt Szarka lived the life of a busy executive when he lived in San Francisco.

That changed in early in 2008, when an adverse reaction from prescription medication left Matt disabled for almost a year. He is part of the .5% of the population who suffers side effects from taking that particular medication. The experience had a profound impact on his life and has prompted him to pursue a new career in acupuncture and Eastern medicine, to which he attributes his recovery.

“My experience with the medication, and the positive results from the acupuncturist helped me recover from the illnesses the medication caused; it motivated me towards a more holistic, health-oriented, and eastern based medical perspective. It has shown me the great need for health care and I’ve decided to pursue my part in that through my work with acupuncture,” says Matt Szarka.

Matt Szarka recently moved to Hawaii where he is currently preparing for grad school on the way to becoming an acupuncturist himself. There, he’s finding a more relaxed pace that suits his laid back personality better. He reads extensively, both fiction and non-fiction, and also enjoy writing.  He draws and paints.  He enjoys a wide variety of movies and music, and especially likes supporting the local music scenes.  He admits to following politics pretty closely, though it’s a proclivity he says he’s trying to break.

These days, life is unfolding at a more relaxed pace and Matt Szarka is taking the time to appreciate it.

“The thing that inspires me the most is simplicity of living.  It is something I have to strive pretty diligently at, but the idea of growing my own food, being self sufficient, owning my own business, and finding ways to continually challenge myself in ways that benefits others,” he adds.
